Two Rice undergrads. One very bad bowl of tofu. A lot of science, a few late nights, and something that actually works.
It started with a meal that should have been a victory lap.
Risus was in China, sliding into a bowl of spicy tofu like he'd done a hundred times back home. He hadn't done it a hundred times back home. He'd done it like… eight. The tofu won.
For the next three days, the burn moved. Mouth → throat → stomach → places we will not name due to legal concerns. By the time he got back to Houston, Risus had a thesis: spicy food shouldn't be a battle.
He took it to Mo, and the two of them set out on a mission. They mapped the entire spicy-food experience, identified every place capsaicin hurts you, and went looking for a formula that could push back at every stage.
That research turned into the powder you can try today. Sooz: one sachet, one spicy meal, zero next-day apologies.
Two Rice University undergrads who picked an unusually painful problem to solve.
Risus took one bite of spicy tofu in China and decided spice relief needed to exist. With Mo, he turned that painful idea into an actual formula.
Together, they map every stage of the spicy-meal experience and refuse to ship anything that doesn't make it better.
From a tofu disaster to a launch-ready product: the (slightly chaotic) Sooz timeline.
Risus orders the spicy tofu. The spicy tofu orders Risus. Three days of regret begin.
Risus and Mo map every stage of the spicy-food experience: mouth, esophagus, stomach, gut, the next morning. A product emerges.
First batch tasted like a sad smoothie that lost its job. But the science was right: capsaicin neutralizers, mucosal soothers, pH buffers. Just needed to taste like, you know, a beverage.
Sooz makes it onto the table at 2 a.m. pop-ups, markets, and one questionable festival. The reviews are unhinged in the best way.
Strawberry sachets, fully formulated, ready for your hottest meal. The first run is shipping soon; grab yours now.
We love hot sauce, hot pot, hot wings, hot everything. We just don't love what comes after. Sooz exists so you can keep saying yes to the spicy meal and skip the part where you regret it.
Every ingredient earns its spot. If it's in Sooz, it's there because it actually does something for the spice.
Mouth, stomach, gut, morning after. Sooz works at every stage, not just the first sip-of-milk moment.
Spice is meant to be enjoyed. Sooz is there for you. Bright, easy, packable.
